Kayaking The Schuylkill River

Kayaking the Schuylkill River is a must-visit for Berks County residents and anyone visiting the Reading area. It features an exciting combination of history, nature, and countryside. This includes early German settlements, the Reading Railroad, and the Schuylkill River Canal system. It's a great place for bird watching and picture taking.

Your paddling trip begins behind the Leesport Post Office and ends at Epplers Landing Boat Ramp (Bern Twp) (approx 3 to 4 hours). This section of the river has a mix of riffles and runs and makes an exciting summer getaway. We rate this trip as moderate, but it can be suitable for ambitious beginners. The section of the river we will be using is considered class 1.

Two vehicles are required when you paddle down the Schuylkill River. You will need one at the end of your kayak trip, so that you may drive back to your vehicle.
